Government freezed DA & DR for 1.1 crore employees & pensioners: COVID-19



The central government has frozen the Dearness Allowance (DA) & Dearness Relief (DR), an inflation-linked allowance to its 1.1 crore employees & pensioners respectively due from January 1, 2020 to combat the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.


Govt to suspend up 3 sections of IBC, 2016 upto 1yr to avoid insolvency proceedings amid COVID-19



This will act as a relief measure for corporate borrowers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as pave the way for banks to restructure loans.

An ordinance would be promulgated to suspend three sections of IBC viz. Section 7, 9 and 10 for six months, if the current situation continues beyond April 30, 2020, and the suspension time can be extended up to one year based on the economic situation.

Pralhad Joshi sets 710 MT coal production target for Coal India Limited in FY 20-21



Union Minister of Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi has set the target for Coal India Limited (CIL) to produce 710 million tonnes (MT) of coal for FY 2020-2021. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed and opened a new Class 70 permanent bridge by replacing the pontoon bridge (floating bridge) of limited load capacity on the Ravi river that connects the 35 square kilometre Kasowal enclave in Punjab with the rest of the country.

Global military expenditure sees largest annual increase in 2019 decade, US tops,India in 3rd position: SIPRI

According to a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute the total global military expenditure rose to USD 1,917 billion in 2019, which represents an annual growth of 3.6% compared to 2018.

RBI increases WMA limit for States/UTs to Rs 2 lakh cr from 1.2 Lakh cr for H1 FY21


RBI has increased the limit for Ways and Means Advances (WMA) by 66% for States/Union Territories (UTs) to Rs 2,00,000 crore from Rs 1,20,000 crore for the remaining part of first half of the financial year 2020-21 i.e H1 FY21 to tackle the financial crisis arisen due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The continuous overdraft limit for a state increased to 21 working days from 14 days.

Under Article 293(3) of Constitution of India, the states are allowed to raise Rs 3.2 trillion during the first 9 months of FY21

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Mandi team, developed a magnetic Random Access Memory (RAM) using spintronic technology which is faster, more energy-efficient and capable of storing more information in a smaller volume than existing data storage technologies. The research by the IIT team has been published in IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, a reputed international journal.




ARI researchers developed “bug sniffer” for detection of pathogens in 30 minutes


Researchers at the Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) of Pune, Maharashtra have developed a low-cost biosensor namely “bug sniffer”to rapidly detect bacteria. This portable device can detect 10 bacterial cells from a sample size of one milliliter in just 30 minutes.This research is led by Dr. Dhananjay Bodas, and has been published in the Journal of Biotechnology.
