SOLUTIONS:

1.Answer – 5) 35
Explanation:
Sum of the present ages of Arun & Chitra is (62+20)=82 years
5 years hence ,
Arun:Bala=7:5=14:10
Bala:Chitra=10:9
Arun:Bala:Chitra=14:10:9
14X+9X-10=82
X=4
Bala’s present age = 10X-5=(10 *4-5) =35 years

2.Answer – 4) 9000
Explanation:
12X/(X+3000) *9 = 8/9
X=6000
X+3000 = 9000

3.Answer – 3) 16
Explanation:
Let the numbers be a,b & c
(a+b)/2 –(b+c)/=28
a-c= 56
a:c= 9:2
9X-2X= 56
X=8
Third number =2X=2*8=16

4.Answer – 4) 315 m
Explanation:
length of the train = X m
Speed of train = X/12
(X-80)+ 500=X/12 *28
X=315 m

5.Answer – 3) 3.6 kmph
Explanation:
Rate of downstream of boat = (126 *60)/84 = 9 kmph
Speed of current =9/5 * 2 =3.6 kmph

6.Answer – 4) 15%
Explanation:
Rate of increase in population during 2014-2015 =%
2400 *110/100* (1+X/100)=3036
X=15%

7.Answer – 1) 2000
Explanation:
Labeled price be Rs X
Selling price =X + 100
X + 100= (105X)/100
X=2000

8.Answer – 5) 4
Explanation:
9 children→ 10 days .
6 children can complete the work in (10 *9)/6=15 days
6 children in 6 days → 6/15=2/5 part
The remaining part =3/5 will be completed by 6 men in 6 days
6 men’s work in 1 day = 3 * (5 *6)=1/10 part
6 men can complete the work in 10 days
15 men can complete the work in (6 *10)/15=4 days

9.Answer – 4) 33
Explanation:
A + B + C = 66
B + C = 18 * 2 = 36(3 years ago)
Present age of B + C = 36 + 6 = 42
A = 66-42 = 24
Age of A after 9 years = 33

10.Answer – 2) 271
Explanation:
17 + 2^3 = 25
25 – 3^2 = 16
16 + 4^3 = 80
80 – 5^2 = 55
55 + 6^3 = 271
