RBI reduces FPI investment limits in G-secs to Rs 2.34 lakh cr for FY21; Rises for SDLs to Rs 64,415 cr

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced the investment limit for general category foreign portfolio investors’ (FPI) in central government securities (G-secs) to Rs 2.34 lakh crore for FY 20-21 from the existing limit of Rs 2.46 lakh crore.  The limits have been brought down by almost $1.5 billion to just above $31 billion.

IMF cuts India GDP growth to 1.9%, projects while Barclays forecasted it to 0%

DCGI clears ICMR plasma therapy trial in Covid-19 patients; 99 applications received

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), Dr. VG Somani has approved the clinical trial proposal for convalescent plasma therapy submitted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Under this therapy, plasma from recovered Covid-19 individuals will be transfused into sick patients to check whether this therapy can be used as a treatment for the pandemic.

Government increases loss coverage for micro loan defaults under CGFMU scheme to 75% from 50% earlier

According to the amendment of Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units (CGFMU) scheme as notified by the ministry of Finance states that the  coverage of lender’s loss in case of loan default is increased to 75% from earlier 50%.

Rajasthan: First Indian to carry out Rapid Testing for Covid-19

Rajasthan became the first state in the country to carry out Rapid Testing for Covid 19. State’s urban primary health centre of TopkhanaDesh (also known as Jaju Dispensary) in Jaipur started rapid tests at 5pm where 52 persons were tested and all were found COVID-19 negative.

NASA to launch 1st US astronaut mission to ISS since 2011

For the first time since July 21, 2011, a human mission from American Earth will go into space. That is after 9 years, the US space agency NASA ( National Aeronautics and Space Administration) & SpaceX will send two veteran astronauts –Bob Behnken & Doug Hurley- from the Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre in indigenous 23-story Falcon 9 rockets to the International Space Station (ISS) on May 27, 2020.

Gujarat’s GBRC: 2nd Indian institute to decode COVID-19 genome sequence; 3 new mutations found

Gujarat’s Gandhinagar-based Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) has become the second institute in India after the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, Maharashtra to decode the entire genome sequence of the COVID-19 virus but with three new mutations.

In view of increasing pandemic coronavirus (Covid-19) cases, a team of researchers from National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K) at Surathkal, has designed a disinfection chamber called ‘ZERO-COV’ to disinfect personal protective equipment (PPE) tools, surgical masks, vegetables, packaged food items, currency notes and other day-to-day items within 15 minutes.
